Ajit Pai became FCC Chairman one month ago, on January 17. He of course is against net neutrality but has chosen first to go after the low hanging fruit in changing the internet status quo. His first targets: prisoners and low income people. He has begun dismantling the Inmate Calling Service, a service to provide affordable telephone rates to incarcerated people. This process was begun by refusing to enforce the existing rules. The process of withdrawing support to low income people involved dismantling Lifeline Support for Affordable Communications. This will serve to further isolate the poor and thwart their ability to organize for a political voice.
