Bob Ferguson is on a roll. As previously discussed he sued the lobbying giant Grocery Manufacturers Association for violating campaign laws in failing to disclose the extent of its $14 million campaign against a ballot initiative which would have required genetically modified foods and seeds to be labeled as such. He just won a $1.1 million award against the illegal corporate campaign (which regrettably prevailed in the election).
The next question is whether the is a sufficient disincentive to prevent illegal corporate election tampering. GMS paid $14 million to the campaign. Having to pay $1.1 million after winning might well be seen as worth it by corporate interests.
